I love the effect you created while walking through the memory pictures. Could you tell me how you achieved it?
The transitions from photograph to tableau were a bit different each time. The most elaborate being the first two probably. At the house party scene for instance, we first decided on the actual frame of the photograph. Then we placed a projector right where the camera would be and adjust the angle of the beam to match the lens angle. Everything that was not lit by the projector light was then considered the “blind side” of the photograph and it was physically painted black. Then we would place the camera on a steadicam back to its position.

How do you feel about the Cooke Speed Panchro and why did you choose them for the Pictures memory scenes?

I love the Panchros! We wanted to create a break from the look of the present timeline in the story and the Panchros gave us a non-clinical look that was clearly different to the Summilux lenses. They put us in a different place and time, they gave us emotional...
