Why did you choose to use a broadcast lens for this project?
This music video has a unique visual style and feels part of a larger creative world. What inspired it, and how did you approach the shoot creatively and technically?
When Otto (Band leader and Director) approached me with this concept, he had a bunch of brilliant espionage and spy movie references that helped inform the look and style he was envisioning. These references are a big part of the world-building he’s achieved for both Psylo’s sound and its visual identity.
The Ocean’s series is always a big inspiration. So too are some of the mesmerizing title sequences in the early James Bond films. This was our 2nd time experimenting with this split screen gag, so we felt we wanted to try something a bit different. Our work on Otto’s previous video for “Magic” by Psylo really helped us nail down both the shooting style and the post workflow. It’s a trick you seldom see these days and it leaves room for a lot of experimentation without relying too much on VFX.

What led you to shoot the entire project on 16mm film instead of digital or 35mm?
The easiest answer would be budget! BUT from a creative standpoint, we wanted a bit of a rougher image that could hold up to some of the older, 2-perf references that Otto found a lot of inspiration in. We aren’t ever creating a period ...
